Due to some recent drug smuggling issues, rules for sending mail to inmates have changed for all Pennsylvania state prisons (any institution starting with “SCI”).

All inmate mail from family members and friends must be sent to the following address, where the mail will be opened, scanned, and then emailed to the end facility, which will print out a copy for the inmate:
Smart Communications/PADOC
Inmate Name, Inmate Number
C/o SCI “XYZ”
PO Box 33028
St. Petersburg, FL 33733
If you hire an attorney (…might we recommend Kenny, Burns & McGill?), your attorney can send privileged mail directly to inmates being held in Pennsylvania State Correctional Institutions.
As a general reminder: staples, paperclips, tape/stickers, envelopes, and just about anything other than plain paper documents should never be mailed to state institutions, as they may be confiscated or your letter returned unopened.
